Here at Recyke y’Bike we sell refurbished bikes and essential accessories too. The proceeds help us provide employment, volunteering opportunities, training, pop up bike repair stations and free bikes for refugees and other people on low incomes who are referred to us.
We are a North East charity that takes in used bikes from members of the public. Over 2000 bikes are donated each year. These bikes are refurbished by our wonderful team of qualified staff and volunteers and sold to fund our charitable objectives.
We have shops in Byker and Durham (for address and directions click the links below). Our shops also offer bike servicing & repairs, and each carries a range of new and used accessories and spares.
Through bike sales and servicing we raise the funds that enable us to help others in need.
We work with partners Key Enterprises to send bikes to schools in The Gambia. We also send bikes to Deerbolt Prison in County Durham where young offenders gain vital engineering skills alongside confidence and self-belief. We run formal and informal training, both on site and out in the community, to give people the skills to keep their bikes roadworthy. We also give bikes to individual children and adults referred to us by other organisations.
This work is carried out by our team of staff and over 40 volunteers. Volunteers come from all walks of life; retired people, refugees and people seeking asylum, people who are long-term unemployed, and people experiencing mental health issues. We’ve recently set up a Young Volunteers Club and have been working with local schools and youth groups to engage with young people who have a passion for bikes.
